Installing a Whole House Water Filtration System in Belleville IL
Your entire home will have clean water thanks to a whole house filter system, so you can take advantage of wonderful drinking water from any faucet, chlorine-free showers, and cleaner laundry.
However, a plumbing installation is necessary for the effective setup of this kind of water filter. Sounds scary? It’s not necessary to be! It is only marginally challenging to get everything operating. And you should be able to set everything up yourself if you have the necessary equipment, enough time, and patience.
If you don’t have the time or experience to tackle this project on your own, our team at
Filtration Installation Team is here to help. We’ll make sure your whole house filtration system is properly installed and working properly so that you can enjoy clean water for years to come.
POE Filter Placement?
Where should your new whole-house water filter be installed is the first thing you need to decide.
Naturally, if you want filtered water at every outlet, you should choose a site close to where the main water line enters your house. Only outdoor faucets often don’t need filtered water, although that is entirely up to you.
Also, you need a convenient place so that you can quickly service your filtration system, primarily by changing cartridges.
Your best bet is probably somewhere upstream of the water heater and close to the main shut-off valve. As a result, your heater will last longer and all of your home’s hot water-using equipment will last longer because they won’t have to contend with any sediment, lime, or other impurities that may be in your water supply.
Should You Install a Water Softener Before or After?
If you have one, a water softener should be installed before the POE filter. Softeners will remove any excess minerals and hard particles from your water supply. This helps your POE filter last longer by not having to deal with these types of impurities.
Before the softener to protect the Ion-exchange resin used by softeners to soften hard water, which will be impaired if it comes into contact with chlorine or other contaminants.
Some professionals advise backwashing with a full flow after the softener for well supplies. Your water won’t have any chlorine in it that needs to be removed either unless you chlorinate your well.
What Are the Advantages of Outside Installation?
One major advantage of installing a whole-house water filter outside is that it eliminates the need for interior plumbing. This saves you from having to tear apart walls or floors, which could be costly and time-consuming. It also reduces your risk of flooding due to a malfunction in the system.
Another reason why outdoor installation might be preferred is that it allows you to take advantage of gravity-fed water pressure. This is especially beneficial if your home has low or inconsistent water pressure.
Finally, an outdoor installation may be the best option if space inside your home is limited or if there is no suitable spot indoors. Installing a filter outside usually requires only minimal excavation and doesn’t interfere with your home’s interior design.

How to Install a Whole House Water Filter System
1. Start by turning off the main water valve, located near where your main water line enters your home. This will prevent any contamination from entering the lines during installation.
2. For the filter to work properly, you will need to install it before the pressure regulator and water meter. You may need to cut a hole in the pipe at this point to make room for the filter system.
3. Once you have determined where your filter should go, attach the mounting bracket for it using screws or bolts. This will allow the unit to be held in place without coming loose.
4. Connect one length of pipe between the main water line and the filter system, making sure that it is tightly secured with a wrench.
5. Next, connect another length of pipe from the filter system to the pressure regulator and water meter (if applicable). Again, make sure that you tighten all the connections with a wrench.
6. Connect the drain line to the filter system using a T-fitting and some flexible tubing, secured tightly with clamps. This will allow excess water to be safely drained away from your home.
7. Now it’s time to add the sediment filter cartridges into their housing in the filter unit. Make sure that they are firmly seated in place and are facing in the correct direction before closing the lid of the housing.
8. Connect one length of pipe between your main water line and backwashing valve (if applicable), again making sure that all connections are tightened securely with a wrench.
9. Install the bypass valve just after the backwashing valve, using similar pipe and fittings. This will allow you to easily switch between filtered and non-filtered water if needed.
10. Turn on the main water valve, slowly opening it until a steady stream of water is flowing through your filter system.
- Turn on the main water line again and check for any signs of leakage around all connections once more before turning on faucets in your home to make sure filtered water is flowing correctly.
15. Test your whole house water filter regularly for proper functioning and replace cartridges or filters as recommended by the manufacturer.
